jontey : I think whether or not sex is difficult to talk about depends on the individual, and there are many influencing factors. However, I think we all agree that the overall environment is improving.
Wu Moxi : Haha, it depends on the group of people. Besides, the concept of sex that everyone is discussing is not the same.
Zhongbie : I think it’s inaccurate to say either to avoid the topic altogether or to completely open up. Sometimes we present a consistently inclusive and open attitude, while other times we are quite shy. But overall, I still believe that times are progressing. Are college students the main target audience for sex toys?
Tao Zi : People in their thirties and forties are more likely to use toys. College students in their twenties have less contact with toys.
Lao He : Location, product range, and business acumen determine customer demographics. We have a store near the south gate of Tsinghua University. Due to its location, some students do shop there, but the proportion is not high. This is related to Juse’s product positioning; Juse mainly targets the mid-to-high-end niche market.
Reddoor (a Chinese social networking site) : Women aged 25-32, 35-40, and 50 all have different mindsets and purposes. I’ve basically given up on the student market, but I have a group of users who were students in 2009, and they became the main consumer group on-site.
jontey : When I started my business in 2014, I also thought that college students might have a high demand for sex toys, so I chose this industry. Later, I found that this was not the case at all. There was a big discrepancy. College students’ demand was not as high as we imagined. Later, I started to work with hotels around universities, making a shift from personal services to corporate services.
What factors do customers mainly consider when choosing sex toys?
Lao He : Adult products are used intimately on the body, so product safety is the most important factor for users. Of course, brand, usage, and price are also factors. In my opinion, users are least sensitive to price.
Tao Zi : Issues when choosing sex toys: 1. I’m hesitant to use them due to psychological barriers or concerns about safety. 2. I don’t know how to choose, or which ones are pleasurable to use. Regarding price, 199 and 299 are more acceptable to most people.
Hey, Reddoor : Price is a consumer habit; everyone considers price when doing anything. But I’ve found that what frustrates us most is that users don’t know what they want. I can’t say about price, because my average order value is far above average. But this also proves one thing: customers can be cultivated.
What is the approximate ratio of male to female users?
Mr. He : We have 7 major categories, 21 subcategories, and over 1,000 product specifications, of which more than 70% are women’s products. Our main customers are aged 25-55, which aligns with our product positioning.
Tao Zi : 70% of the buyers are male, including men buying women’s products.
Heyxiaohong reddoor : Men have an entire underground industry chain to satisfy their sexual needs, while women face much higher costs and therefore greater demand.
Public welfare related to “sex”
